Halloween Fun Without the Sugar High

It is that time of year again when you groan inside and think.
My child is going to go crazy!!!!!
Trick or Treat is a lure to many children not just because of the fun costumes but also because of those sugary treats. An evening that begins full of fun can turn into a NIGHTMARE and not because of fright; but because of the monster your child becomes.

What can be done to prevent this from occurring?

There are a variety of ideas that people have been putting into play, a few of them are listed below.
  1. Book:  Harry, The Hungry Pumpkin Feed your pumpkinhe’s hungry. Some people take their children to the store and let their child or children choose a pumpkin, bring it home and decorate it. Then on the trick or treat evening when they return home with their bounty, they can fill the pumpkin with candy (keeping a few favorites for later). During the night empty the candy and replace it with a toy.
  2. Bring your candy to the dentist office and they will give the child a prize.
  3. Bring your candy to the hospital and they will exchange it for a toy.
  4. Make a deal. You can get your child to participate voluntarily by having them select a few choice pieces and handing the rest to you in exchange for something else they would enjoy such as; a movie, toy, bowling or other choices.
  5. Explain the amount of carbs and teach children how to make wise choices in incorporating a few pieces of candy into the diet over the week.
  6. Take your child out to a restaurant of his/her choice, then give an amount of money to spend at a local mall and go shopping.
  7. Successful Solutions has many ideas and crafts without candy to enjoy with this holiday.
  8. Transform your yard into a haunted house or fun maze.
