Communication in Infancy
Communication is developed during infancy through the use of sounds. Speaking to infants often and providing toys with a variety of sounds will stimulate the infants sense of hearing and foster communication skills. Sound is an important component of an infant’s cognitive development.
In response to sounds, infants often turn their heads toward the source. The respond to sounds with a smile, reaching out to grasp a toy, laughing at the sound of a sneeze. Infants language skills begin with crying, babbling, progress to consonant sounds, and finally achieve simple words.
They watch, listen, and respond to the sounds you make. The more language they hear, the more the rapidly their development in that area.
