Children and Nature

(Course from Successful Solutions)

This course accentuates the benefits of children spending time in the wide open spaces of the great outdoors. To those of us who have grown up experiencing the sunny sunshine and blue skies, the drizzly rain and the howling wind; we may not consciously realize what our children are missing. How can the strawberry taste sweet without knowing the bitterness of Greek yogurt, how can one fully enjoy the warmth of the sun kissing the face without also knowing the stinging pain of rain?

When a puppy is born, a skilled breeder will spend many an hour desensitizing it to various textures and environments, knowing this will give the puppy the best possible start to becoming a well-rounded puppy.  Would we deny our future, our children this opportunity as well. Imagine them experiencing the sensations of dirt on their hands and the cool, mud of the beach between the toes of their bare feet.

The uneven ground outside is a great therapist. If your child is a bit awkward physically then the ups and downs of small hills and inclines will increase agility and balance without them thinking of it as work. If a child has experienced emotional trauma, the observing and assisting an educator with animals may open up the doorway of communication as many children will share their feelings with animals while unable to open up to adults. The course Successful Solutions offers is full of the benefits of nature for children and offers a majority of ideas to start you on your way to a successful nature experience with the children in your care.
