Munchy Moments
There is something utterly satisfying and enjoyable about
cooking with young children. It might be the enjoyment they receive from the tactile
stimulation of kneading bread or pizza dough. Perhaps it is the look of sheer
delight that transforms their faces when they taste their own creation and
realize that they brought it into reality.
Baking puts math into a whole different light when a child
uses a measuring cup to dish out flour, sugar or milk into the mixing bowl. There
are many educational lessons cooking such as science, art, language, and even
the simple ability to follow directions.
Design teddy bear pancakes with berry eyes, belly buttons
and a cherry nose. Construct cars or trucks with vegetables and fruit. Visit with the children as you bake, they love
it and so will you. Don’t worry if the meal or snack doesn’t turn out to a
chef’s standards, the tasty treat they’ve created will be treasured as though
it was the best of cuisine.
Cooking can also be a way to teach kindness and compassion.
Obtain permission to bake cookies or muffins for the Retirement Centers and take
the children along to hand out goodies and visit with the elderly. The thrill a
child receives when he/she realizes what joy they brought into another person’s
life is priceless.
So break out that flour, baking soda, salt, and prepare some
memorable moments.
