Waiting Games: True or False/What We Are

WAITING GAMES

Even in the fullest family schedule, there are times of waiting: standing in line, driving from one place to another, waiting for a meal to be prepared, waiting for an appointment, waiting for someone to arrive or be ready to go...

Make the most of your time in-between, and avoid the inevitable "Are we there yet" and "Can we go now" comments by encouraging your kids to play a game. It will improve their cognitive, motor, and visual skills, and it will help time move faster.

True or False:
You can easily play this game with children of any age and with any topic. Simply ask a child to reply whether or not a statement is true or false.
  • The sky is very purple today
  • You had orange juice with breakfast
  • A chicken says moo
For older children, make the questions harder. You can also choose a question based on a topic they are studying in school.
  • There are seven continents
  • Four times three is seventeen
  • A noun is a person, place or thing
What We Are:
This is a game of categories.
  • Pencil......  crayon.......  marker.......  chalk.......  pen....... All of these items can be used to write with 
Slowly, giving the children time to think, list items that fit into a subject area and see how many clues it takes to guess the answer. Easy or hard clues, depending on the age of the child. 
  • King....... queen....... knight....... pawn....... rook....... bishop....... Pieces in the game of Chess
  • Superior....... Huron....... Ontario....... Michigan....... Erie....... A list of the Great Lakes
  • Soft....... whiskers....... fur....... tail....... meow.......  A cat
