Do Not Overuse Car Seats
Infants should not sleep in car seats, swings or infant seats. Children who arrive at the center, asleep in car seats, should be immediately transferred to their crib. Sleeping in infant seats or swings make it harder for infants to breathe fully and puts them at risk of Hypoxia.
Hypoxia is a decrease in oxygen or restricted air flow. This can happen when the chin rests on the chest or if blankets or clothing cover the mouth or nose.
Another reason not to leave kids in seats or swings is that it prevents gross motor development. They need practice and experience in sitting, pulling up, rolling over, and walking, etc. Being restrained in a car seat or swing absolutely will restrict development of gross motor skills.
